Dr. Ken Kasper

Dr. Ken Kasper, Director of the Manitoba HIV Program - Dr Kasper is an Infectious Disease Specialist working at Winnipeg’s Health Science Center Hospital and Nine Circles Community Clinic. He has been the Director of the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority HIV Program and The Manitoba HIV program since its inception in 2007. |
He is seen as a key opinion leader in the Prairie HIV pandemic and is the primary investigator of a number of research projects involving Manitobans living with HIV.
Dr. Stuart Skinner

Dr. Stuart Skinner has played an instrumental role in calling national attention to Saskatchewan’s HIV epidemic and acts as a key stakeholder in the implementation of Saskatchewan’s response to HIV. Dr. Skinner is an Assistant Professor, Division of Infectious Diseases at the University of Saskatchewan and the Clinical Director for the Saskatchewan HIV Provincial
|
Leadership Team. He also provides HIV/HCV care in both hospital and community-based centers, as well as providing clinical care and mentorship for smaller and remote communities in Northern Saskatchewan. Dr. Skinner completed his Internal Medicine residency at the University of Saskatchewan in 2005 and obtained a diploma in tropical medicine and hygiene from the University of Alabama-Birmingham in 2005. Following this, he completed his Infectious Diseases fellowship from 2005 to 2007 in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Dr. Eli Coleman

Dr. Eli Coleman has authored articles and books on a variety of sexual health topics, including compulsive sexual behavior, sexual orientation, and gender dysphoria. He is founding editor of the International Journal of Transgenderism and International Journal of Sexual Health and past president of the SSSS, WPATH, WAS, and IASR. |
Coleman has been a sexual health consultant to the World Health Organization and received numerous awards, including the WAS gold medal and SSTAR Masters and Johnson Award. In 2007, he was appointed the University of Minnesota’s inaugural Chair in Sexual Health.
Dr. James Blanchard

Over the past ten years, Dr. Blanchard has done extensive research and public health program development related to HIV/AIDS in India and other south Asian countries. Between 2001 and 2007 he was based in Bangalore, India helping to establish and lead the university’s extensive program of HIV research and public health programming. In addition to his research and program |
provided technical advice for national provided technical advice for national and international organizations, including the national AIDS control programs for India, Nigeria, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and the World Bank. His research has focused on the epidemiology and control of HIV epidemics. Recently, he has provided leadership to a global “Program Science” initiative, which brings together scientists, policy makers and program implementers to promote translation of scientific knowledge into improved HIV prevention program design and implementation.
Dr. Blanchard received his M.D. from the University of Manitoba and subsequently pursued education in epidemiology and public health at the Johns Hopkins University School of Hygiene and Public Health, receiving his Masters in Public Health in 1990 and his Ph.D. in Epidemiology in 1997.
Dr. Blanchard is currently a Professor in the Departments of Community Health Sciences and Medical Microbiology and Director of the Centre for Global Public Health at the University of Manitoba. He received his Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in Epidemiology and Global Public Health in 2004. During his academic career he has received numerous awards, including the Banting Award from the Canadian Diabetes Association and the 2006 Rh Award for Health Sciences research at the University of Manitoba from the Winnipeg Rh Institute Foundation.

Bullard, Dr. Jared - received his Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada specialist certificates in Pediatrics and Medical Microbiology and sub-specialty certification in Infectious Diseases all through the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Manitoba. He is currently cross-appointed at the University of Manitoba in Pediatrics & Child Health and Medical Microbiology as Assistant Professor and is the Assistant Medical Director of Cadham Provincial Laboratory. He is the Pediatric contact/consultant to the Manitoba HIV Program. His clinical and research interests include molecular viral monitoring in theimmunocompromised host, perinatal HIV infection and prevention and medical education.
Dillon, Dr. Mike – has been practicing medicine full-time since 1990, after training at Queens University, Kingston ON, University of Toronto, ON, and University of Otago, Christchurch New Zealand.
Frohlick, Dr. Susan - is a cultural anthropologist and holds a joint appointment as an Associate Professor in the Anthropology Department and Women's and Gender Studies at the University of Manitoba. Her current research looks at sexuality in the context of tourism and migration. Her interest in sexual health has arisen out of seeing how racial and economic marginalization contribute to inequities in access to healthcare and to HIV vulnerability, in particular for male youth. Her research has been published widely in international journals.
Goss, Lisa – is the Coordinator of Reproductive & Sexual Health, Trans Health and Limited Visits Services at Klinic Community Health Center. Lisa coordinates services, provides clinical care, support and clinical leadership in Klinic’s adolescent programming, STI walk in services, Reproductive & Sexual Health program and in the Trans Health Klinic. Lisa works from a pro-choice and harm reduction philosophy and has spent the last 20 years implementing this philosophy while working in Northern Manitoba, Winnipeg’s downtown area and with marginalized populations. She is an accomplished nursing professional offering an impressive background in health care, facilitation, management and corporate governance. Lisa chairs the Teen Services Network and is the first person to offer to share any forms she has created, assist with starting a new program, help to provide an excellent learning experience for a Family Resident or Physician Assistant or give you something good to eat if you stop by her office.
Hacault RN, Aleasha - is the STI/HIV Outreach RN at Nine Circles Community Health Centre. As the newest member of the team, Aleasha brings a vast, and extensive skill set with her from the Methadone Intervention and Needle Exchange Program (MINE) as well as at Cancer Care Manitoba.
Illsley, Shohan – is the Executive Director of The 595 Prevention Team. She has worked with inner-city underserved populations and is currently completing her Master's of Science at the University of Manitoba. Shohan grew up in The Pas and Churchill, in northern Manitoba. She is mostly happily married to her high school sweetheart and is the mother of four children. Shohan attends Aboriginal ceremonies, including the Sundance, with her family.
Kane, Jim - is presently serving on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Aids Society (CAS) as the PHA Rep (Prairie Region). Jim is also presently serving on the Board of Directors for GNP North America. He is a past board member of the Alberta Community Council on HIV (ACCH) and Past President of the Board of Directors of Living Positive Edmonton. Jim has been living with HIV for over 25 years.
Koncan, Veda – is one of the Health Educators at Nine Circles Community Health Center. Veda has been doing sexual health education for 10 years, since she started doing peer workshops when she was 15. She continues that trend by developing and delivering community workshops on STI/HIV/BBPs using an accessible mantra of inclusiveness, sex positivity, and fun. From her feminist upbringing in the West Broadway community, Veda deepy enjoys giving back to the community she calls home.
Malone, DHS, MPH, ACS, Dr. Reese –is the Education Program Coordinator for the Rainbow Resource Centre specializing in the development and delivery of public education and training on sexual orientation, gender identity, and comprehensive sexual health and sexuality education. Reece is a graduate from the University of Winnipeg with a degree in sociology, and was awarded a Masters of Public Health and a Doctorate of Human Sexuality from the Institute for Advanced Study of Human Sexuality in San Francisco, California. Reece also holds a private consultation, coaching and clinical sexology practice.
Marshall RN, Shelly – has been a community health nurse working with marginalized and street involved populations in Winnipeg's core area for the last 12 years. As a graduate student at the University of Manitoba, she is this year's recipient of the Christina Gow Community Health Nursing Scholarship and the FRNM Graduate Award. She has been a Public Health Nurse with the WHRA's Healthy Sexuality and Harm Reduction Team since 2007.
McKay, Gina – is the Education Program Coordinator at Nine Circles Community Health Centre. Gina has worked as a sexual health educator for the past 10 years, and has dedicated her time to work directly with the education and prevention of HIV & AIDS in both Manitoba and Saskatchewan. She works to bridge the gap between academia and front line community programming by engaging with her community to implement dynamic regional, provincial and national partnerships and programs. After working for 5 years with AIDS Saskatoon, Gina moved back to Winnipeg to work with Nine Circles Community Health Centre and to finish her honours degree at the University of Winnipeg in Women & Gender Studies – specializing in gender, praxis and HIV/AIDS.
Payne, Krystal – is one of the Health Educators at Nine Circles Community Health Centre. Krystal has worked in the area of sexual assault counselling, pro-choice organizing, healthy relationships and front line community programming for many years, so moving into sexual health and drug use education was a natural shift. Krystal loves talking to people about how to have fun in an inclusive, safer and sexy way. These days she is especially excited about talking to other service providers about how to do this in their workplace as well.
Pockett, Carrie – is the project coordinator of the Play It Safer Network-a community-based organization located in northern Manitoba. In her role as the project coordinator, she has had the opportunity to facilitate the various project groups involved in the UnWANTED project. Carrie brings to the presentation the successes and challenges in working with groups of teens to develop resources and information related to STBBI prevention, including how or if they apply the information they have developed for their peers. She has a strong passion for her job, and has been honoured to be involved in the UnWANTED project.
Reinhardt, Jeff – worked at CATIE for four years developing and managing the components of their Hepatitis C Program, which include publications, websites, workshops and community capacity building. He has since returned to full-time studies and is completing his B.Sc. in Nursing at the University of Toronto and has previous experience in non-profit project development in drug and alcohol use, social assistance, crisis intervention, and HIV/AIDS programming.
Schenk, Dale, RN; ACRN –Has been a primary care Nurse, specializing in HIV at NCCHC for 8+ yrs. She also has the lead role in the HCV tx program for co-infected individuals who are going through treatment at Nine Circles. Years prior, she had been a volunteer in Pre/post test HIV counselling for 4 years at Village clinic.
Smith, Shelly – is the Healthy Sexuality Consultant with the Healthy Living and Populations Branch of Manitoba Healthy Living, Youth and Seniors. She manages multiple, province-wide, agency files that provide direct service and support relating to sexual health promotion and STBBI prevention. In addition, Shelly participates on a variety of intersectoral committees that address such topics as sexually exploited youth, teen clinics, LGBTT sexual health, and STBBI awareness and prevention. Shelly co-chairs the provincial advisory committee for the new Manitoba STBBI Strategy as well as co-chairing the Prevention working group.
Stopera M.Sc., PMP, Shelley – is the STBBI Policy Analyst and HPV Project Manager with the Communicable Disease Control Unit of Public Health and Primary Health Care for Manitoba Health. She provides leadership for the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of policy options and program initiatives for the provincial STBBI prevention and control program. She chairs provincial advisory and working group meetings and participates in the federal/provincial/territorial advisory committee on HIV/AIDS. She has over 15 years' experience working in the biopharmaceutical industry on research and development programs for innovative products in infectious disease.

Vystrcil, Nancy - is the Regional STI Prevention Coordinator for the Burntwood Regional Health Authority and the Chairperson for Safer Choices Northern Network. She has been nursing in the Burntwood region for 20 years at various capacities and takes pride in her active role as a frontline service provider and advocate for collaborative health programming in a region faced with many challenges and health disparities/inequities.
