Although HIV is a very serious infection, many people with HIV and AIDS are living longer, healthier lives today, thanks to new and effective treatments. It is very important to make sure you have a doctor who knows how to treat HIV. If you don't know which doctor to use, talk to a health care professional or trained HIV counsellor. You can get more information by calling the Canadian AIDS treatment Information Exchange Hotline at 1-800-263-1638 or visit the website at www.catie.ca If you are HIV positive and pregnant or planning to become pregnant it is important that you speak to a doctor. Given proper medical care and support, people living with HIV can lead long, healthy productive lives. It is important to see a doctor who knows about HIV as soon as possible.
