Men Who Have Sex With Men (MSM)

The term men who have sex with men (MSM) refers to all men who have sex with other men regardless of how they identify themselves (gay, bisexual or heterosexual). In Canada, MSM continue to be largely impacted by HIV/AIDS. In the year 2005, according to the Public Health Agency of Canada, 45% of all new HIV infections were among MSM. Over the past few years, there has also been an increase in the number of MSM diagnosed with a sexually transmitted infection such as syphilis.

The risk of getting HIV or passing it on to another person depends on several things. If you have specific questions, talking to somebody who knows about HIV may be helpful. In Manitoba, you can call the free, confidential STI/HIV Info Line at: 945-2437 or 1-800-782-2437.
