WHAT’S DRUG CHECKING?

Drug Checking is a free and legal (approved by the government) way to help keep people safe. It is confidential, which means no one else will know you used the service. This service helps people who use drugs by telling them what is in their drug samples.

HOW DO WE CHECK DRUGS?

We use a special machine called an FTIR spectrometer. This machine can find out what substances are in a tiny drug sample. However, it cannot test things like cannabis, mushrooms, drugs in candies or food, or drugs on paper. We also use test strips to check for fentanyl and benzodiazepines. These strips can detect these drugs and some similar ones in a small sample.

WHY ARE DRUG CHECKING RESULTS IMPORTANT?

The results from drug checking can help people make more informed choices. People might find out unexpected drugs in their sample. They may then decide they change how to use them or not use them at all.

KEEPING THE COMMUNITY SAFE

Drug Checking Services can see what drugs are circulating in the community. It can warn the community if unexpected substances are found in the drug supply.
